Joseph F. Fitzpatrick

Lawyer and Mediator

Year of call: 1983

Year joined SF: 1981

Joe has practiced law at Sullivan Festeryga LLP for his entire legal career. He attended both McMaster University and Osgoode Hall Law School, and has maintained a litigation practice throughout his career, with an emphasis on insurance defence work.

Joe completed the Advanced ADR workshop offered by Stitt Feld Handy in conjunction with the Faculty of Law of the University of Windsor, and since 2017 has also been conducting private mediations in civil, commercial, family and estate disputes, again with a focus on personal injury matters.

Decades of practice have taught Joe the value of effective mediations in resolving disputes. Having acted for a variety of litigants in his career, he has acquired the ability to listen to and empathize with all parties, an essential skill for a successful mediator.

Joe is often able to provide mediation dates on fairly short notice, a definite benefit to parties who are unable to wait a year or two for a mediator. If parties wish, they can mediate with Joe in comfortable meeting rooms at our office, without any additional cost to the parties funding the mediation. In addition, he is always happy to travel beyond Hamilton, and offers video mediation using a variety of platforms.
